St Kilda is located 27 kilometres from Melbourne airport and can be accessed by taxi, car or shuttle bus. Once in Melbourne you can choose to travel by car, tram or bus to get to St Kilda.
You will find lots of parking options whether you are coming in from the beachfront or from the city end. And if you want to be explore St Kilda further, you can park and take one of our many trams, or use the Melbourne Bike Share stations (visit Bike Share), jump on one of our St Kilda Rickshaws or rent a Flexi Car.
From Tullamarine Airport St Kilda is so easy to get to. There are a couple of ways you can choose. At the airport there is a bus service called the Skybus (operates 24/7). It brings you into the major Bus and Train terminal in the city, Southern Cross Station. Once you have arrived at Southern Cross Station, catch the No. 96 Tram from the corner of Spencer Street and Bourke Street. Once you’re on the tram, just head for Fitzroy Street, St Kilda.
If you are after a faster and more efficient way of getting to us from the airport then you can jump on the Frankston and Peninsula Bus (little green and white bus). It operates between 7.00 am and 7.00 pm. This service brings you right to Fitzroy Street St Kilda.
From Avalon you hop on the Sunbus Shuttle to Southern Cross Station then catch the No. 96 tram from the corner of Spencer Street and Bourke Street to St Kilda.
Travelling from the city choose the No. 16 tram from Swanston Street, No. 96 from Bourke Street, or No. 12 from Collins Street (around 25 minutes) to St Kilda; No. 3 from Swanston Street to Carlisle Street (around 35 minutes) and Alma Road (around 40 minutes).
Trams run approximately every 10 minutes between 5.30 am and 1.30 am.
There are 2 Airport Shuttle Companies that service all hostels in St Kilda. Both of these will drop off directly to our front door. The name’s of each company are listed below along with their transfer chargers.
Both of these bus services can be found directly out the front of International arrivals in the middle land of traffic, Bus zone 3. For further timetable information and to check a bus will be available for your arrival, please contact our reception (email or phone) and we will check on the most convenient bus.
OR, If your arrival is before these services commence or after their last bus, you can catch the Skybus shuttle to Southern Cross Station($16). Then catch tram 96 to Fitzroy St, hop off at St Kilda station.
Once here, bicycle is a great way to get around. St Kilda has dedicated bike tracks along the foreshore which allows you to enjoy the sights, the food and the beach by bike, without leaving the bike track.
Melbourne Bike Share is designed for short trips around St Kilda and the city. If you would like to hire a bike for a day, you can purchase a subscription that suits you, take a bike when you need it and then return it to one of the 50 bike stations throughout the city. In St Kilda there are bike stations on Fitzroy Street, Cleve Street and outside Luna Park.
Riding without a bike helmet is illegal in Australia. You can purchase helmets for $5 from vending machines at Southern Cross Station and at 7-Eleven stores – see a list of locations here.
