Fitzroy Street precinct is proud to be home to a huge number of many and varied, but always delicious, eateries. The thing we’re most proud of though, is that these businesses represent many parts of the world, from India to Italy, from West Africa to Thailand, from France to Scotland, from China to America and so much more!

Around the World in One Day is an epic long lunch restaurant crawl where you’re given the opportunity to taste 20 of these restaurants and their cuisines, but, most importantly, the journey you take and what you try is up to YOU! Go on your food adventure on Saturday, May 17, 12pm – 4pm.

How is this so, you ask? Well, let us explain!

  • We have listed every restaurant involved in Around the World in One Day below. Under their listing information, you will see the 2 x tasters each restaurant is offering
  • Each taster has noted if they are vegetarian, vegan, gf – gluten free, df – dairy free and nf – nut free, however, PLEASE NOTE: these items are still produced in kitchens that have nuts and wheat etc – so there may be traces
  • You get to choose and book which tasters you would like to collect from which restaurants on the day (and yes, if you like the look of both the tasters at one venue, you can book both)
  • It is $5 (plus booking fee) per taster 
  • Feedback from our last Around the World event was that 4 – 5 tasters is a good number to order but, in the end, it’s up to you!
  • On the day, you wander about Fitzroy Street precinct, visiting the businesses, showing your ticket and collecting your tasters
  • As this is a restaurant crawl, on the day, you will be served tasters in/on a takeaway receptacle, allowing you to walk and eat
  • Even though this is a restaurant crawl, the majority of venues have nominated that, if you order a drink, you can sit in and eat your taster (these are noted in the listing below). Some have also offered drink specials for the event. Drinks are extra and are not included in the event pricing
  • Some of the eateries are takeaway only (as are noted in the listing below), which means you’ll collect your taster and eat whilst moving on to your next venue
  • There are also bars on the street that are not involved in the event but would love for you to stop in for a drink along the way – they are Chronicles (open 1pm), Lady Peacock (open 3pm)Fleet Street (old St Kilda Cellars), Freddie Wimpoles and The Fifth Province
  • You do not need to book the same tasters as others in your party or even the same venues. The fun of it will be that everyone books their own food journey and you’ll just need to wait while your friends collect their tasters and vice versa
  • No refunds or changes available after Fri, May 9 at 5pm
  • Bookings close Thu, May 15 at 5pm. There will be no more bookings available after this time

There will also be musicians dotted along the street, to entertain you on your global gastronomic adventure!

West African Cuisine

Akwaaba means ‘Welcome’ in the Twi language of the Akan people in Ghana & it embodies the intrinsic warmth and hospitality of the country. Offering traditional & exceptional West African & fusion dishes, the AKWAABA experience is an authentic & memorable journey into the food, music, culture & colour of this welcoming, vibrant part of Africa. You can get all your favourite drinks at the bar, but make sure you do yourself a favour & try our speciality exotic cocktails made from African spices.

Taster 1

Jollof rice – bold, smoky, and unforgettable. Rice slow-cooked in a zesty tomato-pepper sauce, packed with layers of traditional West African spices. A must-try for spice lovers (mild) (vegan) (gf)

Modern Indian

Established in 2014, Babu Ji offers fresh and often unexpected Indian flavours. Traditional home-style tastes are recreated with authentic Indian food and a vast menu of street food. Classic and not so classic curries, naan and surprises from the Tandoor are available seven days a week.

The food is simple yet sophisticated, made from quality products sourced from local markets and farmers. Many of our dishes are built for sharing and most are gluten free. We also accommodate vegetarian and vegan diets.

French Traditional

Bistro Voliere is a French bistro, located within the historic George Hotel foyer.

Blanquette de Veau – traditional French dish originating from the Normandy region. Veal and spring vegetables slow cooked in herbs & white wine, served in a veloute sauce and accompanied with rice pilaf (gf)

Trio de Croquettes – 3 croquettes with GF crumbs, each served with an accompanying sauce. Beef bourguignon croquette; porc effiloché (pulled pork) croquette; and citrouille et fromage de chèvre (pumpkin & goat cheese) croquette (gf)

Middle Eastern

Located in the heart of the Fitzroy St precinct, Buba Local Shuk is a Tel-Avivian inspired bar and eatery, serving contemporary Israeli Middle Eastern cuisine in a slick, fun, casual and high energy environment.

Spanish Tapas Twist

Ellora is a vibrant rooftop cocktail bar that boasts one of the best views of the bay and breathtaking sunsets. Ellora focuses on offering fresh cocktails, modern tapas and hand-stretched pizzas.

Happy Hour starts at 4pm with $10 pints of Ellora draught, $8 house wines and shaking up $15 Tommy’s margaritas, espresso martinis & Aperol spritz

Thai

Derby Thai are a traditional Thai restaurant that has been around for 25 years, specialising in authentic Thai food.

Dominican inspired Latino food (Caribbean, Central and South America)

The creation of La Bodega was inspired by the food, dance culture and people of Dominican Republic. Bringing the carefree and enjoyable atmosphere of Caribbean to you, La Bodega is a restaurant/bar embodying a fusion of authentic Latin American food, music and dance.

Dumplings are our signature dish at I Love Dumplings, it’s what we do best. Our team of skillful chefs use only the freshest ingredients and an assortment of flavourful traditional Chinese recipes to create these pockets of joy you know and love.

NOTE: I Love Dumplings will be closing  at 3pm, so be sure to visit them and collect your food before this time

New Orleans

Mama Rae’s bring the flavours of Southern comfort music & food to Fitzroy Street! With golden fried delicious chicken, Po’ Boys and Mama Rae’s Southern burgers – this is where savoury flavours meet with the sweet aromas of the deep South.

Italian-American

Louey’s is The Espy’s fun and frivolous Italian-American bar & kitchen. Think big eats, big vibes and modern takes on the classics. Look out for the splashes of neon, the luxe red leather booths, and the shiny disco ball that drops from the ceiling when the DJ ups the volume.

Thai

Thai Turn offers a variety of traditional Thai dishes. The restaurant is particularly known for its Pad Thai and Roti with Peanut Sauce, which are favourites among customers, in addition to an array of options including chilli crispy pork, BBQ chicken, and a selection of curries such as green and red curry.

Opened in July 2019, in front of the grandeur of the old French Embassy, Three Elephants had a vision of sharing the diversity and unique flavours of Sri Lankan food in Melbourne. We pride ourselves on offering wholesome and tasty meals whilst adding the Chef’s own variation and style to create new themes.
